Coast Guard

The U.S. Coast Guard must like Mayari. Within a span of about two weeks, they've boarded us once, I thought they might board us a second time, and we also had a low pass flyover from a Coast Guard Falcon.

The boarding took place in Biscayne Bay. Three Coast Guard officers (they may have actually been enlisted men but I don't know how the ranking system works in the Coast Guard) pulled up to our stern in a RIB and asked "How long has it been since you've been boarded by the Coast Guard?". To which I replied "We haven't". To which they replied "Well, we can take care of that". They proceeded to come aboard and did a standard safety inspection, which we passed with no faults. They were actually very professional about the inspection and were friendly. One thing they told me was that if we get boarded again in the next year, we can show them the inspection paper and may not have to get inspected again.

The flyover came while we were sailing back from the Bahamas. I had kind of expected to be contacted by the CG, but they just did a quick pass and that was it. It was a CG Falcon, and they flew low enough over us that I am guessing they could read the name of the boat on the stern. (sorry, no pic of the falcon)

The third encounter came while we were just day sailing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. A CG Cutter came up on our stern and hailed us. I thought we might get boarded again. They asked about 10 questions, i.e. last port of call, destination, persons on board, etc, and then let us pass.

Chronology

Hi all. I know, it's been over a month since I've posted. Well, I've been really busy with guests and the boat and.... I know, excuses, excuses. I've now been harangued by several friends about getting some blog postings up. I plan to, but I don't see the busy thing stopping any time soon. I am leaving today for a dive trip, so, other than a post or two today, I won't be doing any more for at least a week. That's the bad news. The good news is that I am finally going diving again and should be able to do some posts when I get back that pertain to the original topic of this blog - underwater photography. But I also have a bunch of things I want to post about the boat, plus some video I shot last year, plus a Bahamas trip with my son... so, I am going to try to blog all of those things as well, and to do so, I think I am going to have to drop all sense of chronology. In other words, things aren't necessarily going to be written in the order they happened.

Anyway, the boat, and I are currently in Hollywood FL, and if you read my previous post, you'll know that I am glad to be here where it is warm.
